O.R.I.O.N.
History, Faculty, and Ammenities
History:
The Outdoor Recreation Institute of New England was founded by and for Heather Martin in the year of 2000. It is an Unschooling University, with degrees in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Education, Alternative Medicine, and Photography.

The Institute was founded to provide rigorous, intriguing study for Heather Martin, at a price she could afford. Although, if you would like to chip in some money so she can buy books or go on fascinating around the world trips and post a website about it, feel free to send it to the address listed below. :-)

To find out more about Unschooling and creating your own college, explore the Unschooling website.

O.R.I.O.N. is located in beautiful central Vermont. The Capital of Montpelier is 15 minutes away, while Burlington is a short 45 minutes.

Several ski resorts are within two hours drive, including Stowe, Burke Mountain, and Mad River Glen. The Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST) has trails that run right behind the campus property.

Hiking and biking trails abound. The beautiful Worcester Mountain range can be seen from the campus grounds, while the Worcester Mountain trailhead is a 10 minute drive away.

The town of Calais boasts numerous lakes, ponds and streams. The closest is Curtis Pond, a mile and a half away. It has fishing, boating, and a seperate swim area access. Curtis Pond is where the famous Men Of Maple Corner dropped their clothes and stood behind a canoe for the calendar cover shot. All of the Men of Maple Corner live within half an hour, most within 5 minutes.
